In December 2018 Veronica Biermann took over the professorship for Design and Architectural History. She has already worked in this position at the Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle as a substitute professor since October 2016.

Veronica Biermann, born 1962 in Rome, studied art history, classical archaeology, theatre studies, medieval and contemporary history in Mainz, Munich and Berlin from 1984 to 1990. In 1995 she received her doctorate from the Technische Universität Berlin with a thesis on architectural theory on the ornamentum in Leon Battista Alberti's treatise de re aedificatoria. She then worked as a research fellow of the Max Planck Society at the Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome, as a research assistant of the Census at the Humboldt University Berlin and as a research assistant at the Chair of Art History at the Technical University of Munich. She completed her habilitation at the Technical University of Munich in 2008 with a thesis on Queen Christina of Sweden and her Roman representation strategies. From 2008, she held substitute professorships at the Humboldt University in Berlin and the University of Leipzig.

Her research focuses on the history of architecture and its theory from the 15th to the 21st century, on the genre and media-spanning history of the Roman Baroque and on the design history of the 19th and 20th centuries.
