Laura Straßer, born in Frankfurt am Main in 1981, studied product design at the Bauhaus University Weimar from 2002 to 2008, and also at the Pratt Institute in New York (USA) in 2005. Laura Straßer then founded her studio, first based in Weimar and later in Berlin, for product design with a focus on porcelain and ceramic design. She works closely with clients and partners, also at the interface with sales or design labels. Straßer's works often take up old techniques and reinterpret them, translating anecdotes and curiosities from the centuries-old tradition of the material into today's product world.
Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions, including at ESMoA, Los Angeles (USA), the HFG Archive of the Museum Ulm, kaaf Gallery, Tehran (Iran), Porzellanikon in Selb, and at fairs worldwide. Laura Straßer's works are represented nationally and internationally in collections of decorative arts.
She has also received various working scholarships, including Visiting Artist at the National Glass Centre, Sunderland (UK) in 2008, Scholarship Holder at the International Ceramic Research Center in Guldagergaard (Denmark) in 2009 and Scholarship Holder at the Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart in 2013/14.
Laura Straßer was a lecturer in industrial design at the Berlin University of the Arts in 2015/16, followed by a visiting professorship at the Bauhaus University Weimar in 2016/17. From 2019 to 2020, she was also a substitute professor in the field of product design/ceramic and glass design at the BURG.
