TOPO - Emil Frederking<\/p>

The project focused on exploring formmaking. The goal was to develop a form system that is quick to produce, robust in use, and versatile in application. Topo understands molds not as highly specialized, singular tools, but as adaptive means of production positioned between prototype and industrial series. The core idea is based on layered molds made from steel sheets. By stacking the geometry, highly durable tools can be created with relatively low time and cost investment. This layered construction allows precise form definition without the complexity of conventional industrial tooling. Topo is designed for production runs of approximately 3,000 to 10,000 units, bridging the gap between handcrafted small series and large-scale industrial production. The molds are technologically open and can be used for various manufacturing processes such as casting, blow molding, injection molding, pressing, and stamping. Compared to industrial molds, Topo is significantly more cost-effective and enables reproducible, semi-industrial production.
