Hans Stofer was appointed to the professorship for Jewellery in the Plastic Arts course in the Art faculty at the start of the winter semester 2017/18. He was born in Baden in Switzerland in 1957, and completed vocational training as a precision mechanic and toolmaker. He then studied in the department of “Jewellery and Equipment” at what is now Zurich University of the Arts between 1981 and 1984. In Zurich, he first worked as a freelance artist and jewellery designer, before he moved to London in 1987, where he set up a studio and began teaching. In 2006, he was appointed professor at the Royal College of Art in London and was named head of the Jewellery and Metal master’s programme. His works have been shown at exhibitions in Germany and abroad, such as at the ‘Pinakothek der Moderne’ in Munich, MUDAC in Lausanne, the V&A Museum, the Louis Koch Collection and the Crafts Council Collection in London. In 2017, Hans Stofer’s works were exhibited by the Tresor in Basel, the National Museum in Wroclaw and the State Museum in Zurich.
