Resources are stored in the form of products within anthropogenic stockpiles—such as basement shelves—where they are often forgotten. The master’s thesis 'It’s been great – what now?' explores potential alternatives to non-use. Particularly in the sector of small electrical appliances, product lifespans are increasingly shortening while waste volumes continue to grow. A prime example is the raclette grill: a device found in many households that is purchased for its functionality but rarely used.

While the social togetherness and fond memories of a raclette event with friends and family are highly valued, the device itself is perceived as having little worth. Does this call for a product that fosters an emotional bond, or should the product not be the focal point at all? The two designs, Reduclette and Multiclette, illustrate this spectrum, offering users the chance to decide which product—and thus how many resources—aligns with their lifestyle.

By choosing the Reduclette, users can acquire their device directly at the supermarket along with their groceries. The packaging for the candle and cheese provides the social added value of a shared raclette meal for up to three uses; afterwards, it can be disposed of with the household waste. 

By choosing the Multiclette, users invest in a durable and robust interior object that provides cozy togetherness, warmth, and a flexible way to cook and eat together.
