HAI: HandworkㆍArtificial IntelligenzㆍIntegration - Kyoungjin Lee, Jaehwan Lee, Felix Hobein
Artificial Intelligence is fundamentally transforming design practice—not just as a tool, but as an active co-creator. Our project explores how the design process changes when carried out either entirely through AI or through traditional craftsmanship. The starting point was the creation of a stool with a clearly defined design language. Both versions are based on the same parameters but were developed using different methods. The handcrafted version relies on sketches and physical making, while the AI approach uses prompting, image generation, and automated modeling. The resulting objects reveal how strongly method and tool shape the outcome—and highlight the evolving role of designers: as guiding, reflective agents or as curating, combining forces. This project makes methodological differences tangible and offers insights into how hybrid processes can be structured.
