Rosa Tuchel – Die Entwicklung der Menschheit

Das 1932 von Erich Kästner verfasste Gedicht »Die Entwicklung der Menschheit« skizziert knapp die kulturelle und technische Evolution der Menschen und schließt: »bei Lichte betrachtet sind sie im Grund / noch immer die alten Affen«. Rosas Buch zum Gedicht zeichnet sich durch einen spielerischen Umgang mit Material und Konstruktion aus. So erinnert die abstrakte Fadenstruktur auf den Deckeln (aussen erhaben, innen geprägt) und die den Gedichttext begleitenden handgezeichneten Linien durchaus an ein haariges Fell. Ein Verdacht, den der dunkelgraue Filzschuber nur bestärkt.

It concludes that, looked at in broad daylight, that people are still, after all, very much like the old apes. Rosa's book on the poem is playful in its use of material and its construction. The abstract thread structure on the covers (raised on the outside, embossed on the inside) and the hand-drawn lines accompanying the poem's text, for example, are certainly reminiscent of hairy fur. An association only reinforced by the dark grey felt slipcase.
