SensoCut - Karl Purgand
“SensoCut” puts the focus on the volume of the grip: the handle is milled from ash in two halves and shaped for forceful work. The cutter is made of few, deliberately chosen means – a form resolved ergonomically as much as aesthetically, a material of quality, and a surface texture that can be sensed. It works as visual and haptic feedback, marking the grip zones intuitively and allowing precise, secure handling.
More abstract, urban patterns were tested along the way; the restrained texture chosen underlines the character of the wood without becoming too loud. The digital process behind it lays the groundwork for future, subculturally inflected variants at the threshold of a lifestyle object.
Unlike conventional utility knives, “SensoCut” works without an additional mechanism: the blade sits firmly between the handle halves, fixed by a single screw. The tool is reduced to essentials: form, material, texture.
