“sense” is a new take on a tool with a long history.
At its core is a tool-free, customizable, and infinitely adjustable scythe. A system of quick-release clamps allows for easy, stepless adjustment of the handles to accommodate different body types and terrain. The aluminum knee joints give “sense” a unique 120° adjustment angle in the handles. “sense” combines traditional manufacturing methods, such as steam-bending wood, with modern techniques like quick-release clamps. Untreated ash and polished aluminum also reflect this fusion on a material level, making the dialogue between craftsmanship and contemporary product design visible. The result is a tool that both makes it easier to get started with scything and meets the demands of experienced scything enthusiasts.
As a preview of possible future developments, a prototype scythe shaft made of thermoplastic carbon tubes was also created for use in competitive scything.
