An Object to slice, dice, mince, split, chop, shred and cut - Jannik Noel Ernst
„An Object to slice, dice, mince, split, chop, shred and cut“ celebrates the act of cutting in its entirety and defines the cutting board as the inseparable counterpart to the knife. Starting from the archetypal chopping block, it evolves into a standalone object that assigns a fixed place to the act of cutting and lends the action a monumental presence in the space. The minimalist form retains the appearance of a classic cutting board but reinterprets it as a freestanding object. Crafted from beech end-grain wood and featuring a central recess, the object evokes historic butcher’s blocks whose surfaces have been shaped by years of use. The manufacturing process, too, consistently follows the guiding principle of cutting: sawing, milling, and trimming constitute the essential processing steps. The object is complemented by a discreetly designed knife made of sandblasted stainless steel, which deliberately draws attention to the cutting board as the central element of the cutting process.
