In this 5-day workshop, students will transform ordinary, resourceful materials such as cardboard, second-hand objects, wooden blocks, or metal scraps into sculptural surfaces for projection mapping with TouchDesigner in small groups. These sculptural interventions will temporarily reshape the familiar spaces of the academy and invite new ways of seeing and inhabiting them.
Through a mix of collective theatrical practices, including attentive observation, thinking through movement, and site-specific exploration, students will freely experiment with image-making techniques (with or without green screen, cameras, or digital tools) to create projections that bring their sculptures to life.
The workshop combines playful re-imaginings of everyday space with a hands-on introduction to TouchDesigner and projection mapping, encouraging students to both technically learn and artistically intervene in the everyday space.
What students need to bring:
- A laptop with an HDMI port (or a dongle) and the free version of TouchDesigner downloaded.
- Craft materials such as glue, scissors, ruler, cutting knife, cutting board, and, if they want to work with hard materials, a hand drill, nails, etc.
- Filming devices (e.g. mobile phone, camera, camcorder), and tripods for them if available. They are also welcome to work with sounds and audio recording devices if they want to explore.
