Digitale Technologien prägen unseren Alltag und verändern die Rolle von Gestalter:innen grundlegend. Kommunikation, Veröffentlichung und Feedback sind heute jederzeit und für alle möglich. Das beeinflusst Inhalte, Prozesse und die damit verbundene Verantwortung.
Im Schwerpunkt Intermediale Gestaltung steht ein medienoffener, technikbasierter und reflektierter Gestaltungsansatz im Zentrum. Digitale Kulturen und gesellschaftliche Dynamiken werden kritisch hinterfragt und gestalterisch verhandelt. Gestaltung wird als mediengebundene Praxis verstanden, die nur im Bewusstsein ihres Kontexts wirksam sein kann.
Neben der technischen Aktualität spielt auch die visuelle Verortung im Jetzt eine zentrale Rolle. Wir verstehen Gestaltung als aktiven Teil von Kultur, der gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen nicht nur kommuniziert, sondern sie zugleich mitprägt. Deshalb setzen wir uns kontinuierlich mit aktuellen gestalterischen Positionen, ästhetischen Tendenzen und kulturellen Diskursen auseinander.
Da sich digitale Werkzeuge, Programme und gestalterische Methoden kontinuierlich weiterentwickeln, ist gemeinsames Lernen ein zentraler Bestandteil des Schwerpunkts. Im Sinne des Peer Learnings werden Inputs, Workshops und praktische Einführungen zu neuen Techniken, Programmen und Arbeitsweisen angeboten. Diese werden sowohl von den Lehrenden als auch von den Studierenden gestaltet. So entsteht ein gemeinsamer Wissenspool, der aktuelle Entwicklungen aufgreift und den Austausch unterschiedlicher Erfahrungen und Kompetenzen fördert.

Digital technologies shape our everyday lives and fundamentally transform the role of designers. Communication, publishing, and feedback are now accessible to everyone at any time. This affects not only content and processes, but also the responsibilities that come with them.
The Intermedia Design program is centered on an open-ended, technology-based, and critically reflective approach to design. Digital cultures and social dynamics are examined through both critical inquiry and creative practice. Design is understood as a medium-specific practice that can only be effective when it is aware of and engages with its broader cultural and social context.
Alongside technical relevance, maintaining a strong visual connection to the present is equally important. We see design as an active part of culture, one that not only communicates societal developments but also helps shape them. For this reason, we continuously engage with contemporary design practices, emerging aesthetic tendencies, and current cultural discourses.
As digital tools, software, and design methods evolve continuously, collaborative learning is a core element of the program. In the spirit of peer learning, we organize talks, workshops, and hands-on introductions to new techniques, software, and ways of working. These are developed and led by both faculty and students, creating a shared pool of knowledge that embraces current developments while encouraging the exchange of diverse experiences and skills.
