Plenary sessions

The Students’ Council regards itself primarily as the body that legitimately represents students’ interests and concerns both to the university and to society as a whole. The Students’ Council at Burg Giebichenstein meets in its office weekly:

Our plenary sessions are held during the lecture period on thursdays from 12 a.m. to 2 p.m.

These meetings are open to all students. People wishing to submit motions and other interested parties are always welcome.

Students in financial distress have the option of obtaining an interest-free loan from the StuRa. We are, of course, obliged to handle student funds responsibly. Therefore, we require a statement of your financial situation.

The maximum loan amount is 800 Euro and the loan must be repaid within 12 months. The first instalment of the loan must be repaid no later than three months after receipt of the funds.

How it works:

Fill out the social loan application form completely and send it to us by email at ed.ellah-grub@rutsneznanif . We will then invite you to our next meeting (usually Thursdays from 8 p.m.).
There you can explain your financial situation in a confidential setting and answer any questions we may have.

Please bring the following documents with you to the meeting, printed out in full on A4 paper:

  • Completed application for a social loan
  • Proof that the student union fee for the current semester has been paid (bank statement or, if the semester fee has not yet been debited, proof issued by the Student Affairs Department). Please note: Since the 2018 summer semester, the student ID cards of those who paid their fees and picked up their cards at the Kutscherhaus in March have a StuRa logo on them; in this case, proof in the form of a bank statement is not required. The StuRa cannot grant loans to students who are not members of the student body.
  • Bank statements for the last three months so that we can assess your financial situation
  • Copy of your passport
  • Copy of student ID card
  • You must show how the money will be repaid (regular sources of income, e.g. confirmation of processing in the event of delays in Bafoeg or student loan payments, employment contract, support from parents, child benefit, etc.).

Please note: It is very important that the documents are complete. Only then can the StuRa decide on the granting of the loan and ensure that you receive the money in a timely manner.

After reviewing the documents, the StuRa will vote internally on the approval of the social loan. We will inform you of our decision immediately afterwards.

If you have any other questions about BAföG, you are welcome to take advantage of the advisory services offered by MLU, where the former head of the BAföG office is available every Thursday to answer your questions. The MLU StuRa is located at Universitätsplatz 7, 06099 Halle (Saale).

The StuRa grants interest-free loans for the realisation of student projects if the personal financial situation does not allow for financing.

The maximum amount is 1,500 euros and the loan must be repaid within 12 months at the latest. The first instalment of the loan must be repaid no later than three months after receipt of the funds.
We are, of course, obliged to handle students' money responsibly. Therefore, we require a description of your financial situation in order to approve the loan.

Here's how it works:

Fill out the form for a loan to support student initiatives (available as a PDF under Downloads) and send it to us by email at ed.ellah-grub@rutsneznanif . We will then invite you to our next meeting (usually on Thursdays from 8 p.m.).
There you can present your project in a confidential setting, describe your current financial situation and answer any questions.

Please be sure to bring the following documents printed on A4 paper to the meeting:

  • Completed application for a project-related loan
  • Cost estimate (what will the requested amount be used for?)
  • Proof that the student union fee for the current semester has been paid (bank statement or, if the semester fee has not yet been debited, proof issued by the Student Affairs Department). Note: Since the 2018 summer semester, the student ID cards of those who paid their fees and picked up their cards at the Kutscherhaus in March have a StuRa logo on them; in this case, proof in the form of a bank statement is not required. The StuRa cannot grant loans to students who are not members of the student body.
  • Bank statements for the last three months so that we can assess your financial situation
  • Copy of your passport Copy of your student ID card
  • You must show how the money will be repaid (e.g. confirmation of funding that will only be paid out at a later date; sources of income such as employment contract, Bafög, loan, scholarship, etc.)

Please note: It is very important that the documents are complete. Only then can the StuRa decide on the granting of the loan and ensure that you receive the money promptly.

After reviewing the documents, the StuRa will vote internally on the approval of the loan. We will inform you of our decision immediately afterwards.

Applications for financial support for projects can be submitted to the Student Council. As we are obliged to use student funds responsibly, we are unfortunately unable to support all projects. For reasons of fairness, semester projects and projects for which you receive credit points cannot be supported.
However, if a project meets one or more of the following criteria, it has a good chance of being supported by the Student Council:

  • it benefits the student body in general
  • it promotes exchange and cooperation between art and design
  • it raises public awareness of Burg Giebichenstein
  • it promotes exchange or cooperation between Burg Giebichenstein and other institutions
  • it addresses social issues that are also important to the Student Council

Procedure

If you would like to apply for funding for a project, please send us the completed project funding application by email to ed.ellah-grub@rutsneznanif . We will then invite you to the next meeting (usually Thursdays from 8 p.m.). There you will have the opportunity to present your project to the StuRa and answer any questions.

Please bring the following documents printed on A4 paper to the meeting:

  • Completed project funding application
  • Cost estimate (breakdown of what (estimated) amount is needed for what)
  • Proof that the student union fee for the current semester has been paid (bank statement or, if the semester fee has not yet been debited, proof issued by the Department of Student Affairs) The StuRa cannot award project funding to students who are not members of the student union
  • Copy of student ID card

It is very important that the documents are complete. Only then can the StuRa decide on your project funding. The StuRa decides on the allocation of project funding in an internal vote. Please note that we can only pay you the money after the project has been completed.
Project funding from the StuRa must be clearly indicated as such during the implementation of the project (e.g. by displaying the StuRa logo on posters and flyers, mentioning it in public relations work).

After completion of the project, please submit the following to us for reimbursement of costs:

  • All original invoices and receipts glued onto A4 sheets. Thermal receipts (e.g. shopping lists) must be copied and attached as originals to the copy. For orders placed via the internet and mail order, please always have the original invoice sent to you, as otherwise it will have to be requested retrospectively (online invoices printed at home are not originals). The entire funding amount must be fully documented with original invoices.
  • A report documenting the implementation and/or proof of the implementation of a (university) public event at which the project was presented.

The Student Council offers members of the student body the opportunity to borrow equipment for various occasions. It does not matter whether these are university events or private events. The only important thing is that you adhere to the agreements and treat everything with care so that we can enjoy the items for a long time.

In order to purchase new equipment and repair existing equipment, we ask you to pay a solidarity contribution when borrowing. The amount varies depending on how much is borrowed and will be discussed on site with the person responsible.

Booking and borrowing of equipment is done exclusively via the website.
If you have any questions, please contact us by email.

To borrow something from StuRa, you need extended liability insurance in case of damage or loss. Borrowing and returning items always takes place from Tuesday to Thursday, 12 noon to 1 p.m. in room 114 (Goldbau, Neuwerk 7).

Overall, the following things must be taken into account:

  • the completed rental agreement (download here or fill out on site)
  • €150 deposit
  • €5 to €20 solidarity contribution
  • extended liability insurance
