Excursion: Futurium – Treasures of the future

10.10.2024

The Futurium in Berlin is not a traditional museum, but an interactive knowledge space that invites visitors to engage with the complex issues of the future. Visitors can immerse themselves in future perspectives in a creative and diverse way in the so-called thinking spaces of nature, people and technology. The exhibition combines analogue and digital formats and addresses the central question: ‘What can and should the future of the world look like?’ However, this is not about a fixed future, but about a multitude of possible futures whose paths are influenced by our actions today.
With the theme year ‘Treasures of the Future’, the Futurium is focussing intensively on the area of raw materials, their use and the associated challenges. Raw materials play a central role in shaping our future, be it in industry, in everyday life or in the context of sustainability. At Futurium, these topics are not only examined from a technological or economic perspective, but also from an ethical and social point of view.
The museum’s curators want to encourage visitors not only to seek answers to complex questions, but also to scrutinize and reflect on their own actions. The aim of the exhibition is to ask questions and give visitors space to think about how we can influence the world today in order to shape a more sustainable future. The aim is to encourage discourse and thus promote critical debate.
As one of Berlin’s most popular museums, the Futurium pursues a clear educational mission and therefore offers free admission in order to give as many people as possible the opportunity to engage with these important topics of the future.
