Design Theory

The theory of design considers the entirety of questions and problems that arise in design practice but which are not answered by this practice. Design theory is divided into two areas: design studies and the theory of artefacts. It thus deals with the process of designing itself and with the analysis of design objects. In particular, knowledge and skills relating to the methodology of planning and to communication and information theory are imparted in Design Theory. In addition to this, elements of the history of ideas, cultural studies, everyday aesthetics, media theory and practical knowledge are also taught.
