What?
The tool can be used to create a session in which students can receive live translations or transcriptions of spoken language on their smartphones or laptops. The transcript can then be saved as a text document and be shared.
For whom?
Microsoft Translator is free and can be used by anyone.
Anyone who has installed the app can create a session. Anyone can join a session by entering the session code on the page translator.microsoft.com.
How?
The Microsoft Translator app is launched on the iPad from Studium Digitale or alternatively installed on your own device (smartphone or tablet).

Important
- The stored transcripts should be deleted from the app as soon as possible
- Do not share sensitive data while the app is transcribing
Tips
- A stable internet connection is important for using the tool.
- The tool makes mistakes in both transcription and translation and repeatedly omits sentences. This should be communicated before the event.
- Test the tool in the designated room before the event.
- Send out the slide with instructions for participants in advance and present it again before the event.
- Allow enough time for people to join the transcription room.
- In the settings, deactivate “Show partial messages” – this improves readability.
- Use clear, short sentences – complex nested sentences impair the translation.
- Avoid unnecessary English technical terms – they often lead to incorrect translations.
- Technical support can be provided anonymously and without disruption during the event using a collaborative tool such as Etherpad.
