Raspberry Pi

The Raspberry Pi is a compact single-board computer with HDMI output and USB power. When paired with the free Videolooper software, it can serve as an affordable media player that plays video files from a USB stick on any external screen.

For what?

The Raspberry Pi can be used in many different ways. For example, when connected to a screen with an HDMI input, it can play videos, making it useful for integrating video material into exhibitions or events.

How?

Using a Raspberry Pi as a media player/video looper

  • Copy the 1920×1080 (h264) .mp4 video file to a USB stick.
  • Insert the USB stick into the Raspberry Pi. The video starts automatically.
  • The Raspberry Pi is charged via USB and connected to the screen via HDMI.
  • Multiple videos are sorted alphabetically and played sequentially. 

Tip

  • An older Raspberry Pi 3 is sufficient, as it comes with a standard HDMI output. Newer models are more expensive and require a micro HDMI to HDMI adapter.
