It’s that time of year again in mid-July: as the summer term draws to a close, the BURG opens its doors and invites you to visit its Annual Exhibition.
In keeping with tradition, Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle will once again open its doors to all visitors in mid-July, inviting them to attend the Annual Exhibition over two days at the end of the summer term. In the studios, workshops and seminar rooms transformed into exhibition spaces at all the university’s campuses and at other venues in Halle, students will be showcasing work from the past two semesters on Saturday 18 July and Sunday 19 July, offering insights into their diverse creative processes. Current final-year projects from the Department of Art, as well as Bachelor’s and Master’s theses from the Department of Design, will also be on display.
Insights into the programme and further information will be updated here on an ongoing basis.
The Annual Exhibition opens on Friday 17 July at 7.30 p.m., followed by a fashion show featuring work from the Fashion Design course. For the first time, the fashion show will be presented at the Sparkassen-Eisdom in Halle, showcasing current student projects as well as final collections by Bachelor’s and Master’s students. By choosing this venue, the university is deliberately responding to the high demand seen in recent years. This provides better opportunities for participation for university staff, external guests and the city’s residents alike. With over 3,000 seats available, the new venue offers significantly greater capacity. Public ticket sales for the Werkschau 2026 will begin approximately 14 days before the event and will be announced separately.
A special highlight of this year’s Annual Exhibition is once again the exhibition Take Off 2026 – Meisterschüler*innen der BURG which will be officially opened on Thursday, 16 July at 7 p.m. at the Burg Gallery at Volkspark. It will remain on display at the Burg Gallery at Volkspark beyond the Annual Exhibition until 9 August 2026, daily from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., and showcases a broad spectrum of contemporary artistic perspectives.
Alongside the exhibitions, the university’s various degree programmes will be presented at the Student Information Centre. Prospective students can also take advantage of a personalised portfolio review, during which they can show and discuss their own artistic work.
A free shuttle service will once again be running between the various exhibition venues this year.
The Annual Exhibition will be open on both days at the Design Campus and in the Hermes Building from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.. The Art Campus is an exception: it will be open on Saturday 18 July from 12 noon to 8 p.m. and on Sunday 19 July from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
