TURN

Connection by rotation

The TURN connection provides a flexible, easy-to-assemble connection. Since I didn’t have a specific application context in mind, my focus was on the way the mechanism should work. In the mechanism to be executed, the cylindrical body is rotated 90 degrees along its longitudinal axis to fit through the recess of the ring fragment; once inserted, it is rotated back to fit the inner radius of the ring. Since the ring fragment is about 60% of a ring, the cylinder clamps in and thus cannot slide out the front. Initial castings with alginate went reasonably smoothly, but I was still a little concerned about the somewhat tight quantity. Rotational casting with the PU also worked surprisingly well, but the alginate mold deformed more and more as it aged until it was finally unusable. After some minor cosmetic reworking of the PU model, the final product was satisfactory.
