Workshops: Hot Stuff and Smart Materials – this September

At the upcoming Summer School (also known as Herbstsession) we are offering two workshops for BURG art and design students. MAKE. is very proud to collaborate with Sebastian Richter (BURG – Image Space Object Glass) hosting our first glassblowing workshop at the Glasmanufaktur Harzkristall – Hot Stuff! We also invited Paula van Brummelen (weißensee academy of art berlin) to discover the artistic qualities of memory metals through hands-on experiments during a three day workshop on Smart Materials.

Burg Annual Exhibition 2017
Dear Makers. We’re looking forward to this weekend’s Burg Annual Exhibition – also known as Jahresausstellung. MAKE. will be presenting four projects this year. Firstly, we are more than happy to present the first publication by the Burg Material collection with the title Burg Material – 100% Paper. The results of our “Material of the Month” program featuring experiments with Stone Paper and a street art competition with Corn-Based Bricks. Finally, we have been working with a group of young design students to bring our university’s BURGVELO cargo bikes to the next level. All this is probably only 0,01% of what there is to see. Material Snack: Summer School by ThermHex
ThermHex is a company based in Halle (Saale) with a clever way of manufacturing of honeycomb sandwich materials. Tuesday 27th, they will tell us more about their upcoming “Innovation Summer School“ (24.–29.09.2017) focused on furniture design. Burg students, graduates and young startups – feel very welcome to join this short update at the materials collection!
Call for Plastic Bags
BURG’s textile designers are planning to give cheap plastic bags (also known as “Hemdchentüten”) a second life. Got a few bags left? – Please donate them to this project! The plastic bags can be donated a box at: Neuwerk 7, Lehrklassengebäude, Room 318. You can read more here.

MAKE. is presenting one of its latest bio-based materials to rethink our future at this year’s at this year’s Reformation…
Furniture Making Workshop @weyoumedo
meyouwedo stands for a temporary and collaborative art installation. This outdoor platform is located at the wonderful GRASSI Museum in Leipzig, offering a range of events and workshops from 06.05. – 30.07.2017.
One of their first workshops is a Furniture Making Workshop from May 10–14th, daily from 16:00 at the GRASSI Museum. The goal is to realize a few seats and tables for the upcoming meetings and happenings in this social space. The workshop is hosted by BURG graduate Sascha Henken and highly recommended by MAKE. If you feel like giving them a helping hand recharge your “Akkuschrauber” (portable electric screwdriver) and join the team. Read more about the event on Facebook.

Wintersession 2017: Material Driven Design Workshop
Elvin Karana (introduction video) and Valentina Rognoli will be collaborating with MAKE. and bringing useful methods to create meaningful products, installations or sculptures with materials as point of departure.
