Exhibition: Materials and Making at the Burg
We are more than happy that our students will be making their premiere at this year’s Dutch Design Week in The Netherlands. With the “Materials and Making at the Burg” exhibition we are showcasing 10 selected projects of our art and design students, and an inspiring preview of an upcoming collection of materials and techniques. With student works from Industrial Design, Ceramic/Glass Design, Interior Architecture, Conceptual Textile Design and Jewellery courses we are trying to reflect the educational panorama and diversity at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle. BA14: The Last Exercise
MAKE. was invited to develop a series of medals for BURG’s Bachelor students. We created a limited edition of medals made of Polycaprolactone (Material of the Month) which were handed out with the official BA-certificate during the BA ceremony. This special medal for our Bachelor students comes with an special challenge called: “The Last Exercise”. You can read all about it at www.burg-halle.de/ba14
Festivaltipp: Maker Faire Hannover, 5-6 July 2014
Die Maker Faire ist ein familienfreundliches Festival, auf der das Basteln, Bauen, Erfinden, Experimentieren, Lernen, Recyceln, Inspirieren und Spaß haben im Mittelpunkt steht. Die Messe bietet Makern, Bastler, Tüftler, Hacker und Künstler die ideale Plattform, ihre Arbeitsergebnisse einer breiten Öffentlichkeit zu präsentieren und sich mit anderen Gleichgesinnten und auch interessierten Besuchern auszutauschen.
Neben den Ausstellungen warten viele interessante Mitmachstationen, ein spannendes Vortragsprogramm, sowie Workshops und faszinierende Experimente auf die Besucher. Im Vordergrund steht „Anfassen und Ausprobieren“. Die Besucher bekommen auf dem Festival die Gelegenheit für den kreativen, spielerischen und lustvollen Umgang mit Materialien, Techniken und Technik.

In der Ausstellung “Sustainable Design Materials“ werden vom 26. Mai bis 30. Mai 2014 im HAUTE INNOVATION Circle Werkstoffe präsentiert, die die biologische Diversifikation der Natur widerspiegeln, auf nachwachsenden Rohstoffen zurückgehen oder besondere Leichtbaupotenziale aufweisen. Wir zeigen einige der spannendsten Innovationen der letzten Jahre.

Ringvorlesung “Vorbild Natur” an der MLU
Um einen Einblick zu geben, wie und wo die Natur als Inspirationsquelle dient, hat der Fachschaftsrat Biologie (MLU) eine neue Ringvorlesung organisiert. Vom 29. April bis 01. Konferenz: Abweichungen und Fehler – Befunde in Kunst, Design und Wissenschaft

Künstler, Designer und Wissenschaftler reflektieren und diskutieren Projekte und Perspektiven an den Schnittstellen von Kunst, Design und Wissenschaft. Zentraler Gegenstand der Konferenz ist die Frage nach Funktion und Potential von Abweichungen gegenüber bestehenden Regeln der Wissensproduktion. In einer Ausstellung werden unter anderem Beiträge von Emanuel Mathias, Preisträger des SYN Awards 2013 und Nadine Podewski, Preisträgerin des Fraunhofer-Materialpreises gezeigt. // Eine Konferenz der Kunststiftung des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt, der SYN-Stiftung | Kunst Design Wissenschaft und des Fraunhofer-Instituts für Werkstoffmechanik IWM.

Wintersession: 3D Printing with Jonathan Keep and Exploring Materials with Filipe Natalio
Dear Makers! During the coming Wintersession we invited studio potter and digital artist Jonathan Keep (photo left) to build our own 3D printer together so we will be able to print more than plastics (we’re focusing on paste materials such as ceramics, cookie dough? toothpaste? …). The week after we will be taking a more scientific approach focused on the future of materials, in a pilot project titled “Exploring Future Materials” with Dr. Filipe Natalio (photo right) who recently gave an inspiring lecture on Biomimetics at the BURG.
