Cudelice Brazelton IV combines materials such as fabric, leather, acrylic or metal or cardboard to create three-dimensional works that extend the medium of painting in the classical sense into space and make paintings tangible not only visually but also haptically. Sources of inspiration are observations of life in urban space. but also places such as factories, streets and studios. The use of collage and assemblage creates references to different contexts and circumstances, each with their own codes and behaviors; they come together and stand side by side in a value-free manner.
The artist was born in Dallas in 1991 and lives in Frankfurt am Main, where he completed his studies at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste (Städelschule) in 2021. In 2016, he studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Madison. His work has been presented in solo exhibitions such as Barbara Wien in Berlin, Kunsthalle Lingen, Cell Project Space in London and Wschód Gallery in Warsaw and he has participated in group exhibitions at Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Kunstverein Freiburg, Swiss Institute and SculptureCenter in New York. Cudelice Brazelton IV teaches as a core tutor at De Ateliers in Amsterdam.
