bulletproof skin
EXCURSION TO BIOART LABORATORIES
Eindhoven – 20.10.2014
The BioArt Laboratories in Eindhoven are a unique place that brings together and connects people and ideas as a platform between art, design and biotechnology. It offers a laboratory with growing equipment, but above all freedom for experimental work. The focus is on interdisciplinary exchange as well as communication and discussion with the public. In addition, readings, workshops, discussions and exhibitions take place regularly.
Jalila Essaïdi introduced us to some of her projects, most notably the project bulletproof skin: 2.6g 329m/s. Together with biotechnologists, she has succeeded in producing bulletproof skin in the Petri dish with the help of spider silk proteins (from the milk of transgenic goats). A work that raises the question in an impressive way: What if humans were bulletproof?
Finally we watched the film heaven+earth+joe davis about the pioneer of BioArt, Joe Davis.
Thanks to Jalila Essaïdi and Sarah Schützle
