EXCURSION TO BIOCAT TU BERLIN

Berlin – 27.10.2014

At the TU Berlin we received a lecture from Prof. Budisa, Protein Engineering working group, on the artificial production of organisms. In addition to detailed background information on synthetic biology, Prof. Budisa mainly asked the question as to when one can speak of life. In view of the rapid developments in synthetic biology, this question plays an increasingly important ethical role.

Furthermore, we got an insight into the current project of the Berlin iGEM team. The interdisciplinary team of students tries to remotely control E. coli bacteria by synthesizing magnetic nanoparticles inside these.

Thanks to Prof. Dr. Nediljko Budisa and Benjamin Herzog
