Information for Staff

When preparing for and carrying out a stay abroad, support from professors and teaching staff is crucial for students. However, there are also other areas in which teaching staff and the International Office work together.

In addition, teachers and staff can apply for a short teaching or training stay abroad. In specific cases, other forms of stays abroad can also be financially supported by the International Fund. We have created an overview of these and other topics on this page. If you still have questions, please contact us by phone or email.

The International Office at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle supports teaching staff in promoting international student exchange. The university's strength lies in the personal and individual support it provides to its own students and exchange students. This document describes the most important topics and processes involved in the cooperation between the International Office and professors, with a focus on student exchange (incoming and outgoing) and other relevant aspects of international university work.

Below you will find some information and tips on funding for international projects. Funding opportunities are available through the Erasmus program, the DAAD and the university itself.

In certain cases, BURG supports international study projects.

Notes:

As a rule, the project must be a class project.

Applications for this can be submitted on February 1 or June 1.

Application documents:

o Application for funding for international projects (Fonds Internationales) (see download area)

o A self-developed cost and financing plan

o A program plan

Please note: own funds must be available. These can be own funds from the degree program and/or the students (participation fee) or other sources.

If you have any questions about the requirements and modalities, please contact the rectorate.

Please inquire there first to find out whether your project is eligible for funding before submitting an application.

The Erasmus+ (STA) program supports short teaching stays at partner universities. Short training and continuing education courses abroad can also be applied for under STT. Teaching staff who is permanently employed at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle is eligible to apply. An approved business trip application is a prerequisite for funding.

The guest teaching stay must comprise at least eight teaching hours per week. If teaching and further education and training are combined, the required teaching load is reduced to four hours per week. The duration of the stay is a minimum of two and a maximum of 60 days.

In addition, a valid partnership agreement must exist with the host university. The courses at the host university must be aimed directly at students or doctoral candidates. Funding for participation in conferences, conventions, or excursions is excluded. The conditions for leave of absence must be clarified in advance with the supervisor and the human resources department.

Leave of absence and insurance: You can find important information here.

Scholarship: You can find all information on the amount and scope of funding here.

Application and documents: You can find all information on applying for the program and the necessary documents here.

(The documents are currently only available in German. We're working on the translation and will upload them a.s.a.p.)

You can submit applications to the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for various initiatives and projects. Currently advertised programs can be found here.

Individual funding:
Professors can submit individual applications to the DAAD for some programs. In this case, the programs offered are individual grants that you can receive personally (for example, a short-term lectureship at a foreign university).

Third-party funded projects:
A third-party funded project is administered and supervised within the degree program.
This usually requires human resources. In some cases, the program's personnel resources are not sufficient to cover the costs of part-time positions, so that the application, administration, supervision, accounting, and reporting associated with the project tie up human resources from the degree program.
Please note that the International Office does not provide assistance with the application or administration of DAAD or third-party funded projects, as it does not have the human resources available to do so.

If you are interested in a short stay for teaching purposes at a European partner university or a short stay for further training purposes at a European educational institution, please refer to the information in the relevant section of the website.

The Erasmus program offers various pillars. An overview of the key actions and their components can be found here.

Key Action 1:

  • Key Action 1 organizes individual stays (mobility), which are implemented by the International Office at BURG:
  • Mobility of university staff (program countries): see information in the relevant section.
  • In this context, some partnerships offer “Blended Intensive Programs” (BIP). In these programmes, students or teachers work together digitally in groups and then meet in person for a shorter period.

In Key Action 2 (cooperation with other organisations, e.g. cooperation partnerships) and Key Action 3 (support for policy development and political cooperation), teachers can submit applications in cooperation with other higher education institutions. Please note that the International Office is unable to assist with the application or administration of Erasmus projects under Key Action 2 or 3 due to a lack of human resources.
