SHAPING DATA

Visualization of grey energy in everyday products

More than half of the total energy consumption of households comes from indirect energy, according to the German Federal Statistical Office. This so-called “grey energy” includes the energy required for material extraction, processing, transport, storage, use and recycling of products. Although the energy required to manufacture objects is increasing due to more complex production chains, the topic is hardly taken into account. How much energy is needed to produce a bottle of water? “Shaping Data” deals with the complex and non-transparent energy behind products and ultimately questions the consumption of energy in general.
