Material Collection (2nd homework)
02.04.2024, Halle (Saale)
The students presented a diverse array of plant-based material samples, showcasing both commonplace and unexpected items. Each student brought in a total of 10 materials, divided into two categories.
Everyday Materials:
Five samples were selected from materials that are so ordinary they often go unnoticed in daily life. These included items that are part of our routine but may not typically receive much attention.
Surprising Discoveries:
In addition, five samples were chosen for their surprising and unexpected origins. These materials, derived from plants in ways previously unknown to many, highlighted the innovative and less obvious uses of plant-based resources.
One notable aspect of the presentation was the inclusion of raw materials for at least one of the showcased items. For instance, those who presented linoleum also brought samples of its constituent materials, such as linseed oil, wood flour, limestone, jute, and resin, along with the intermediate products involved in the production process.
Overall, the session provided valuable insights into both familiar and novel plant-based materials, enriching our understanding of their applications and production processes.
