Questions and answers about the digital aptitude test 2020.

Due to the spread of the corona virus, the aptitude test of the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle for Bachelor, Diploma and State Examination courses will be conducted digitally this year. In order to answer your questions in the best possible way, we have compiled this FAQ for you. We adapt the questionnaire constantly (as of April 24, 2020).

Until when can I apply to study at the BURG?
The registration phase for the aptitude test was possible up to Sunday, 22 March 2020. The online application for admission to a Master's programme for the winter semester 2020/21 is possible from April 1 to May 15 at masteranmeldung.burg-halle.de.

By when can I submit my portfolio?
Digital portfolio submission was possible until 22 April 2020 via the upload portal ep.burg-halle.de. Prior to this, you had to register at https://azul.burg-halle.de. The registration phase is now closed.

Is it still possible to send analogue portfolios by mail to the BURG?
No, unfortunately this is not possible. The portfolios can only be submitted digitally, as the majority of the teachers cannot be on campus to view or pick up analogue portfolios due to the current situation.

How do I know if my digital portfolio has been sent and arrived?
You can access your digital portfolio yourself at any time via ep.burg-halle.de with your access data and see whether everything is online.

Can I upload my portfolio again?
Yes, you can use ep.burg-halle.de and your access data to delete, change and upload your portfolio at any time until April 22, 2020.

Who keeps me informed about the current status of my application?
You will be informed about the current status of the processing by e-mail.

The procedure of the aptitude test
The procedure for the aptitude tests will differ depending on whether you apply to study in the art or design department. You will receive information on this by e-mail. Therefore, please check your e-mail inbox regularly.

What is the procedure for the qualifying examination in the Design Department?
Between April 23 and 27, you will receive information by e-mail about the specialized tasks that you will solve as "homework". This e-mail will also contain further deadlines and details. By 15 May, the subject assignments will be reviewed by the examination board. By May 22 at the latest, you will receive an e-mail asking whether you will be invited to an aptitude interview.
As things stand at present, the personal interviews are scheduled to take place from 8 to 12 June in Halle during this period.

What is the procedure for the qualifying examination in the Communication Design course?
The procedure of the digital aptitude test differs in the course Communication Design from the other courses in the Design Faculty.
In a first selection procedure the portfolio examination takes place. Applicants will be informed in the 19th calendar week whether they have been admitted to the main procedure (subject task and interview).
On May 11th you will receive an e-mail with your subject task, which you should solve at home. In the e-mail you will receive information on further dates and details.
The interviews will take place from 8 to 12 June. You will receive further information by e-mail.

When and where will the aptitude tests from the Design Department take place?
Between 23 and 27 April, you will receive by e-mail your specialized tasks to be solved at home. In the e-mail you will receive information about deadlines and details.

When do the aptitude tests from the Design Faculty take place?
If you are invited to an interview, as things stand today this will take place on site in Halle from 8 to 12 June. You will receive further information by e-mail.

What if I am not allowed to travel at the time of the interviews?
We hope that by June the corona crisis will have been so far contained and you will be able to travel to Halle safely. If this is not the case, you will be informed about alternatives as soon as possible.

When will I find out whether I will be invited to a suitability interview?
Your submitted assignments will be reviewed by 15 May. By May 22 at the latest, you will receive an e-mail asking whether you have been invited to a personal interview.

How do I submit the assignments?
When you receive the assignments, you will learn more about how to submit them.

Do I have to be at home for the aptitude test?
Yes, you should complete the assignments you are given on your own and therefore also in a private, quiet place.

How do the personal interviews take place?
We will inform you about the exact procedure of the aptitude interviews by e-mail. As things stand at present, they will take place in person on site at the BURG.

What is the procedure for the qualifying examination in the art department?
From 23 March to 22 April you can upload your portfolio and all other documents digitally on the portal ep.burg-halle.de. At the beginning of May, after reviewing your portfolio and checking your documents, you will be informed whether you will be invited to the interviews and aptitude tests. From 11 to 15 May, you should keep the time for examination tasks and interviews at home.

When do the aptitude tests from the Art Department take place?
They will take place between 11 and 15 May. You should keep time for the examination papers and the interviews at home.

Do I have to be at home for the aptitude test?
Yes, you should complete the tasks you are given on your own and therefore also in a private, quiet place.

What materials should I have ready for the aptitude test at home?
Drawing papers, tonal value papers, collage material, drawing materials, painting materials, writing paper, camera, video camera, mobile phone camera/mobile phone camera

How do I submit the task from the aptitude test?
When you receive the assignments by e-mail, you will learn more about how to submit them.

When will I know the date for my aptitude interview if I have applied to the Art Department?
The interviews are scheduled for May 14 and 15. You will be informed of your individual date at the beginning of May when you are informed whether you are admitted to the examination procedure on the basis of your portfolio.

How do the aptitude interviews take place?
We will inform you promptly by e-mail about the course of the interviews. According to the current status, the personal interviews will take place digitally.

Which tool is used for the interviews?
You will be informed promptly by e-mail with the invitation to the interview which tools the Art Department will use for the interviews.

What happens if the Internet connection breaks down during the interview?
We will not consider technical problems in a negative light, but try to find a solution together.
