Information on handling the corona virus at the BURG

The winter semester 20/21 is planned as a hybrid semester. It will again be possible (as of October 6, 2020) to work and study in small groups on campus, while most of the scientific lectures will continue to be held digitally.

+++ Current changes will be published here continuously +++

The BURG will be as open as possible for study and teaching this semester. All members of the university are required to take personal responsibility for observing the hygiene and distance regulations.
Currently, containers are being set up at two locations on the Campus Design to allow more space for teaching. Some central rooms will be converted into seminar rooms. It is also planned that the Macpool will move into the lowered cafeteria room. Additional areas outside the castle grounds will also be used for the art department to allow for more space for teaching. (Status: 6.10.20)

If you have any questions about the specifics of the program, please contact your professor directly.

General hygiene and distance rules
A hybrid semester can only be realized if we adhere to the distance rules or wear a mouth-nose cover if the distance cannot be maintained. Everyone should also wash their hands regularly or use the disinfectant dispensers. In certain rooms there is an obligation to wear a mouth-and-nose cover, please follow the signs on site. Please also make sure that the rooms are ventilated regularly: meeting rooms and the like three times per hour, individual offices should be ventilated once per hour.

Entry from abroad
If you have been abroad and would like to enter the grounds of the BURG, please contact corona-post(at)burg-halle.de in advance. It will be checked as soon as possible whether you receive an access permit. The same applies if you have had closer contact (15 minutes or longer) with people who have returned from abroad.

Mouth and nose cover
A mouth-nose cover must be worn if the distance cannot be maintained. There is also an obligation to wear a mouth-nose cover in certain rooms, please follow the signs on site.

Contact data sheets
When entering the university, the contact data sheets must always be filled out. In addition to the contact data sheets (available here as a pdf file or printed out on site), there will be a digital version that can be filled out on a smartphone. Further information will follow.

Excursions and business trips
Excursions and business trips within Germany as well as within the Schengen area can be carried out again in the winter semester 2020/21, as long as they do not lead into a risk area. Business trips and excursions to other regions worldwide are only possible in exceptional cases after approval by the Rector or the Chancellor.

Use and access of workshops, workstations and studios
The studios and workshops are open in the new semester. However, the spatial resources remain limited, as only a limited number of people can be admitted to the rooms to prevent infection.
From October 1, access to the central workshops will be via an electronic card system. A maximum of 20 persons can be in the building at one time (6 persons each in the Wood, Metal and Plastics Workshop, 2 in the Digital Workshop). The cards are located outside in the entrance area and are color-coded according to the workshops. The cards should be worn in a clearly visible way and are put back on their own after completion of the work. A change of workshop is only possible if the cards are available.

For project work, additional space will be available in a container facility. There is a general obligation to cover your mouth and nose, you must bring your own work protection equipment. The workshop opening hours will probably be extended from 16 October from 7:30am to 1:00pm and from 2:00pm to 6:30pm. The annual workshop instruction including a film after the initial introduction will take place this year as an online quiz from October 5 to 31.

Events and exhibitions
Events and exhibitions on site are again possible in compliance with the applicable hygiene measures and minimum distances. For this purpose, a hygiene concept must be prepared and approved in advance. A framework concept is currently being developed by the university management to ensure that hygiene protection measures for events and exhibitions are in place.

Digital Lectures
Lectures in the scientific disciplines will for the most part continue to be held digitally.

Access to the student information center
The student information center offers on-site consultations during the following opening hours:
Monday and Wednesday from 10 to 12 o'clock, Tuesday from 12 to 14 o'clock
Further personal office hours in the Study Information Center can be arranged after prior registration, appointments are made.
Registration by e-mail on the topics of enrollment, re-registration, leave of absence to Elena Pastjan (pastjan(at)burg-halle.de), examination matters to Sabine Stolte (stolte(at)burg-halle.de) and international matters to Bernhard Lange (bflange(at)burg-halle.de).

Library
The library is again open to everyone, but still under special conditions. It is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and media can be borrowed and returned until 6 p.m. In the library a mouth-nose cover must be worn, which may only be taken off at the assigned workstation. Please continue to order required media online via the catalogs. You will receive an e-mail notification as soon as the media are available. Media will be returned contactless via book trolleys. Please wear a mouth-and-nose cover when handing in or borrowing media.

Mensa
The canteen at the Unterburg is open again since 5 October with a small to-go food offer. The canteen at Campus Design will open, also with a to-go offer, on October 12. Here only a vegetarian menu is offered. In both refectories, payment is made exclusively by card.

Semester ticket
As of October 1, the special rule that student IDs with old validation together with a current certificate of enrollment will be recognized as valid tickets will be abolished. Thus, the previous regulations for checks will apply again.

Castle cargo bikes
The Burgvelos with location at Campus Design can be borrowed again free of charge in the winter semester 20/21. Further information in addition under www.burg-halle.de/burgvelo. The users* inside are responsible to clean or disinfect the handles afterwards.

Parking spaces at Campus Design
Since alternative accommodation is needed for additional workstations, the parking lot in the Ernst-König-Str. area (between the print shop and the textile workshop) and the parking lot next to the Saalewürfel are currently closed off at Campus Design. Parking for university members is available in the parking lot in Seebener Straße (next to the Campus Art). If you would like to use it, please contact Matthias Kaden (kaden@burg-halle.de) for access.

Fitness room closed, no tables and benches in the outdoor areas
At the BURG there is currently no university sports program. There are also no tables and benches outside. The reason for this is that the operation of sports facilities as well as tables and benches that are used alternately would have to be accompanied by special precautions to prevent epidemics. These would include, among other things, access restrictions and the hygienic cleaning of objects after each change of user*. This cannot be done at present. Unfortunately, the fitness room will have to remain closed during the winter semester. The reason for this is that the required distances cannot be guaranteed.

Access to the BURG is generally excluded if:

  • You notice recognizable symptoms of a COVID-19 disease or any respiratory or cold symptoms (regardless of their severity)
  • you are ill with COVID-19
  • you have returned from abroad within the last 14 days and you do not have a special permit to enter
  • you have had contact with returnees from abroad within the last 14 days and you do not have an exceptional permission to enter,
  • you have had contact with persons infected with the Corona virus within the last 14 days
  • and if you are a suspect case and the test result is not yet available
  • If you have any questions regarding university admission in these cases, please contact corona-post@burg-halle.de.
