SolumEye—Nature generates on average 1 mm of soil within a year. How much mass of LCD glass units is being produced within the same time?

Fertile soil is generated by natural decomposition and transformation. This process forms about 1 mm of soil per year(1). In 2007, about 102 million glass units for LCD notebook screens were produced worldwide (2). This corresponds to an amount of about 48 kilotons of glass.
The animation shows the ratio of glass and soil production in a temporal context.
