Im Jour Fixe ist der Fashion-Designer und Forscher, Pierre-Antoine Vettorello zu Gast einen Vortrag mit dem Titel Black Yarns: Self-Fashioning Resistance and the Power of Fabulation und stellt seine Arbeitsweise und Werke vor.

Wir erforschen die zeitgenössische Macht der kritischen Fabulation (Hartman, 2019), die das koloniale Erbe und die Museologie der Mode auf den Kopf stellt, anhand der Modegeschichte von Rabi Diop aus dem Jahr 1939, einer Senegalesin, die sich dem Kolonialismus durch Selbstgestaltung widersetzte. Diop verwendete natürliche Farbstoffe und einheimische Techniken, um Erzählungen und Signale zu schaffen, die ihren Widerstand gegen die europäische Vorherrschaft widerspiegeln. Dieser Vortrag befasst sich mit neuen Methoden für Kreative, um Kolonialismus, Extraktion und Neoliberalismus in der Mode herauszufordern. Wie können Imagination und Fabulation eurozentrische Archive unterbrechen und eine dekoloniale Haltung einnehmen? Dekolonisieren! Zurückfordern! Vorstellen! (Vergès, 2023).

At the Jour Fixe, the fashion designer and researcher, Pierre-Antoine Vettorello is guest giving a lecture titled Black Yarns: Self-Fashioning Resistance and the Power of Fabulation and presenting his working methods and works.

Lecture: Black Yarns: Self-Fashioning Resistance and the the Power of Fabulation

We explore the contemporary power of critical fabulation (Hartman, 2019) in upsetting colonial legacies and fashion museology using the sartorial story of Rabi Diop in 1939, a Senegalese woman who resisted colonialism through self-fashioning. Diop used natural dyes and indigenous techniques to create narratives and signals reflecting her resistance to European domination. This lecture deals with new methods for creatives to challenge colonialism, extraction and neo-liberalism in fashion. How imagination and fabulation can disrupt eurocentric archives and embrace a decolonial stance? Decolonize! Reclaim! Imagine! (Vergès, 2023).
