Burg Giebichenstein’s Academic Senate awards the ‘Dank der Burg’ medal to associates of the university who have rendered exceptional services to the university.
The medal itself is cast bronze and is based on plaster models. Its diameter is 82 mm. Front: Stylised representation of the Oberburg Giebichenstein (Upper Castle), with lettering to the left and right of the image: DANK // DER / BURG, signed at the bottom: W.

‘Dank der Burg’ medal
This medal of gratitude was created in 1948/49 for what was then known as the “Kunstschule Burg Giebichenstein” by Gustav Weidanz, who was the head of the sculpture class at the time.
