The idea... Institute of Interior Design, Environment and Architecture

was founded at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle in summer 1999. The aim of this non-profit university-affiliated institute is the promotion of interior architecture in teaching and research, particularly with regard to projects with an international and interdisciplinary focus. Priority is given to research projects that industrial and craft companies have no means of carrying out themselves. Conducting and supporting these kind of projects offers students a range of insights into various conceptual approaches and encourages them to consider the changing framework conditions in the discipline of interior architecture.

The founding members of the association were professors from the departments of design and art, as well as Prof. Kurt Mehnert from the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. The board currently consists of Prof. Johann Stief, Prof. Klaus Michel and Prof. Axel Müller-Schöll, who also heads the institute.
